A tribute to Bangabandhu

Kazi Nazrul Islam was declared as the national poet by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1972. The Bangladesh government granted him Bangladeshi citizenship in January 1976. Three decades later, a university named after him was established at Trishal in Mymensingh.
Since Bangabandhu brought Nazrul to Bangladesh after independence, various departments of the university were named after Bangabandhu and his family members as a mark of respect for them.
Two halls were opened on 1 February 2022. These two halls have been named after Bangabandhu and his consort; Jatir Janak Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall. The central playground is named after Sheikh Russell, Bangabandhu's youngest son. There is a sculpture named 'Joy Bangla' symbolizing the youth.
At the heart of the university is the towering sculpture of Bangabandhu; which was built by sculptor Shyamal Chowdhury. There are murals of Bangabandhu in the administrative building, central library and Bangabandhu Hall. There is a mural of Bangamata in Bangamata Hall.
Also, there are Bangabandhu Corners at various places including Central Library, Bangabandhu Hall, Department of Public Administration and Governance Studies, Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, and Department of Film and Media Studies. Also the foundation stone of Sheikh Russell Children's Park has been laid while Sheikh Russell's sculpture will be installed and work is in progress. At the same time, Bangabandhu Square is being constructed around the Bangabandhu sculpture.
